If you didn’t catch my segment last week on ABC7’s Suncoast View, here’s the clip! Boozy pies are the craze right now, especially as everyone gets ready to plan their Thanksgiving Day feast menus. I decided to show how to decorate your pie using store bought ready-to-roll pie crust and fun little flower and leaf themed cutters.
It’s so good to be back in Sarasota for the winter wedding season, and I can’t think of a better “welcome back” than to be back on the Suncoast View with Stephanie Roberts, Linda Carson and the rest of the gang… They always make me feel so welcome!
A little behind-the.scenes prep (and a few of my secrets) for this segment:
- did you know that if you cook the apples before putting them in your pie, the filling is AH-mazing…!
- I ONLY use Granny Smith apples for my apple pies and apple crisps. Non-negotiable apple choice.
Here’s a work in progress shot of the pie that I made before the show - you can decorate as simply or as detailed as you want, but let me tell you, as a cake designer, I got carried away and somehow almost 4 hours escaped me! There is inspiration in everything, even a rolled out pie crust. It’s a blank canvas, and with the help of a few tools, in this case a few of my cookie cutters/cake decorating cutter/plungers, a fork, knife and some tools, this is what I came up with:
Flower power. Always flowers on my wedding cakes, so why not on my pies? :)
If you want the recipe for my boozy Spiced Rum Apple Pie, you’ll have to come to my Thanksgiving Boozy Pie workshop on November 13th in Lakewood Ranch - tickets are still available but please sign up by the weekend so I can prep for you.

Hope to see you at the workshop on November 13th!
AND… I’ll be back on ABC7’s Suncoast View on November 15th to share some of my Gingerbread House decorating tips! We’ll be talking about my upcoming Gingerbread House decorating workshop (December 2nd, tickets HERE) and I will show you the styles of Gingerbread Houses you can order from me to give as holiday gifts!
Happy baking!!
